Q: What was your life like before you got the vaccine?

I hadn't been to a hospital since I was born, and needed a doctor just one, single time. I would go on hour long walks every day, and do a 45 workout a few times a week.

Q: Would you like to share your reasons for getting vaccinated?

I was legally required by my state (Victoria) in order to attend an upcoming wedding, despite the fact that I had already recovered from covid.

Q: What was your reaction, symptoms, & timeline?

I had Delta covid five weeks before I received a dose of the vaccine, which I was legally required to receive in order to attend an upcoming wedding. The worst of it was over in about two days, and the fatigue was gone after a fortnight.

The first two days after getting the vaccine, I had normal side effects (muscle and head aches, tiredness, swollen lymph nodes under my arms). On the third night, I lay down in bed and noticed that my heart was thumping in my chest. I checked on my tracker, and it was 80bpm. As I lay there wondering why I was able to feel it, which had never happened before, it suddenly started getting faster and faster, until it felt like a jack hammer in my chest. On my tracker it now was over 150bpm, almost doubling in a matter of seconds. I felt very cold and began shaking uncontrollably. A relative called an ambulance, and I went to the hospital. They ran tests which came back clear, and declared I simply had a panic attack. I'd never had a panic attack before.

Over the next several months, I had these "panic attacks" around once a week. It would happen while laying in bed, driving, going for a walk, and could last for hours.

My heart rate would also shoot up to around 115bpm when I drank coffee or alcohol, ate too much, had a hot shower or went outside on a hot day, and while going for a leisurely walk. Attempting a brisk walk, something I had done daily for years, left me completely breathless for up to half an hour.

I also would frequently feel unpleasant sensations and tension in my chest and upper torso which are hard to describe, but were not exactly pain. A commonly recurring one was a very localised sort of pressure, as if I was being poked hard, which I would feel in three points specific spots a few inches from my left armpit.

After about six months of utter misery, I went to a cardiologist who prescribed me a drug called ivabradine which lowers the heart rate. It was extremely effective in reducing the frequency of the "panic attacks". Tthey now happen "only" around once a month.

However the thumping of my pulse as I lay in bed is still present every single night, even a year later. I feel it throbbing with every beat, in my chest, hands, neck and face. It's impossible to ignore, and every night I just have wait for exhaustion to take over. Other people can even feel it, if they grip my finger.

These days I am able to go about my day normally, but the knowledge that cardiac related excess deaths are dramatically elevated across age groups hangs over me like a shadow. I'm genuinely terrified I'll suddenly drop dead, or not wake up one morning, as has been reported in the news about numerous young adults. I am scared to resume my exercise routine, afraid that it will trigger something.

Q: Share your experience with any medical care and any diagnoses you have received:

I had blood tests, 24 hour electrocardiogram and an echocardiogram, all of which came back clear.

I was prescribed an SSRI which I stopped taking after a week because it made things worse, and dealt with digestive issues for weeks as a result.

Q: Are there any treatments we should know about that helped or hurt your health?

The drug "ivabradine" helped immensely. I occasionally take valium to end a panic attack.

Q: Have you had Covid before?

I had covid (Delta) five weeks before getting the vaccine. I had body aches, headaches and exhaustion for two days, and fatigue for a fortnight, after which I was completely recovered.

Q: What do you wish others knew, or what else would you like to share?

I sincerely hope that this travesty, where governments encouraged and coerced low risk people to get a covid vaccine without a proper risk/benefit analysis, does not result in people shunning existing vaccines whose safety and effectiveness is established, such as the MMR and polio vaccines.
