Q: What was your life like before you got the vaccine?
I was active. I went out to visit my horse daily, and love gardening. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis but it was controlled. I am on Enbrel so I was immune suppressed at the time of the injections.
Q: Would you like to share your reason(s) for getting the vaccine?
I worked in medical research for 40 years, and it seemed the thing to do at the time.
Q: What was your reaction, symptoms, & timeline?
I had no reactions to the initial 2 doses but the booster shot was entirely different. Within 8 hrs after receiving the vaccine I had a major inflammatory response to my right leg, and right shoulder for 3 days, left leg and left shoulder for 3 days and neck and right shoulder for 3 days. I could barely walk, even with the aide of a walker. The walker was left over from a knee replacement 20 years prior and was just stored in closet. My Rheumatologist suggested I stay home if possible to see if I could improve since the emergency rooms were filled with covid patients and I couldn't drive. For 5 weeks I had to hold on to doors, cabinets to get around, my mail was delivered to my door for the next 4 months because it was too hard to walk to the curb. It has taken 1.5 years to feel somewhat steady on my legs again, but it's still far from normal. I had severe heaviness in my legs and very fatigued. I am still limited on how much I can do but I have improved considerably since the shot. I will never get another shot. It has been the worst thing I have had to endure. I was fortunate I was retired at the time.
Q: Tell us about any tests, diagnoses, and/or Medical Care received:
Since I was already taking anti-inflammatory meds for RA, my rheumatologists recommended I remain at home and he checked my every few months at his office.
Q: Have you had Covid before?
Yes. No symptoms the first time in 2020. Mild symptoms the 2nd time - mild fever a couple of days and some congestion.
